ACT Health is committed to enhancing quality and assuring safety within its agencies. ACT Health will continue to work closely with consumers, health professionals and other health care providers to develop policies and implement strategies to improve the quality and safety of healthcare in the ACT.

Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality

AHRQ Patient Safety Network (PSNet) is a new national web-based resource featuring the latest news and essential resources on patient safety. The site offers weekly updates of patient safety literature, news, tools, and meetings, and a vast set of carefully annotated links to important research and other information on patient safety.

Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation

The mission of the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation is to ensure that no patient shall be harmed by anesthesia. The purposes of APSF are to: foster investigations that will provide a better understanding of preventable anesthetic injuries; encourage programs that will reduce the number of anesthetic injuries; and promote national and international communication of information and ideas about the causes and prevention of anesthetic morbidity and mortality.

Australasian Association for Quality in Health Care (AAQHC)

The Australasian Association for Quality in Health Care (AAQHC) rovides support and encouragement to individuals and organisations seeking to improve health outcomes for consumers,provides a voice on safety and quality issues, facilitates opportunities for communication and cooperation as well as exchange of ideas and experiences and facilitates and supports ongoing education and development.

Australian Commission for Safety and Quality in Health Care

The Commission has been funded by the Australian, State and Territory Governments to develop a national strategic framework and associated work program that will guide its efforts in improving safety and quality across the health care system in Australia. The Commission commenced on 1 January 2006.

Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI)

An independent not-for-profit corporation, CPSI performs a coordinating and leadership role across health sectors and systems, promotes effective strategies and leading practices to improve patient safety, and raises awareness with stakeholders, patients and the general public about patient safety. CPSI has a national mandate to build and advance a safer health system for Canadians. The Institute provides leadership on patient safety issues, and helps to create a culture that is open to disclosure and committed to change that will improve care. By supporting healthcare professionals in their development and implementation of patient safety programs, such as Safer Healthcare Now! CPSI helps promote innovative and successful evidence-based strategies for improving patient safety. In addition to supporting and working with several Canadian health organizations on patient safety initiatives, CPSI has established a funding environment for research and analysis that encourages the exploration, exposure and resolution of patient safety issues.

National Patient Safety Agency
